Baker Ranked No. 23 in Directors’ Cup

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – For the third-straight academic year, the Baker University athletics department finished No. 1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference and No. 1 in the State of Kansas in the 2013-14 NAIA Learfield Sports Directors' Cup final standings.

Baker finished in 23rd-place in the final standings with a total of 434.75 points, 153 points in the fall, 202.75 in the winter and 79 in the spring.

The Wildcats were 15 spots ahead of fellow HAAC member MidAmerica Nazarene, who had 315 points and finished No. 38.

In 2012-13 Baker finished with its highest-ever ranking at No. 20 and in 2011-12 Baker finished first in the HAAC with its No. 31 final ranking.

"We are extremely proud that our athletics department finished in the Top 25 in the prestigious Learfield Directors' Cup for the second-straight year," said Baker director of athletics Theresa Yetmar. "This achievement is a testament to the hard work our coaches and student-athletes put in day after day. To earn nine conference titles in one year is an unprecedented feat for our university and reflects our continued mission to pursue excellence on the field of play."

Baker captured an athletics program high nine HAAC conference team titles this season including football, men's soccer, women's cross country, women's basketball, women's indoor track and field, men's indoor track and field, women's golf, women's outdoor track and field and men's outdoor track and field.

The wrestling program also featured its first-ever NAIA national champion, as freshman Bryce Shoemaker captured the 2014 133-pound NAIA National Championship in Topeka, Kan., on March 8 in Topeka, Kan.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 12 sports -- six women's and six men's.
