Coming off a first place finish in the hip-hop category and second place finish in small dance at the 2012 Heart of America Athletic Conference Spirit Squad Competition, the team believes it is yet again primed to make a run at the 2012 NAIA/NDA National Championships.
“I think these girls expect to go down there and compete for the title,” said Baker dance coach Lynsey Payne. “We know anything less than first place would be a letdown after last season.”
Baker’s small dance squad will be going up against Midland University (Neb.), Wayland Baptist (Texas), Concordia University (Neb.), Benedictine College (Kan.), and Indiana University East.
Baker’s hip-hop squad will be performing against Minnesota State University Mankato, Grand Valley State University (Mich.), Valdosta State Univeristy (Ga.), University of Minnesota Deluth, McLennan Community College (Texas), University of Central Oklahoma, Tarelton State University (Texas), St. Ambrose University (Iowa), Oklahoma City University, Hawaii Pacific University, Benedictine College (Kan.), and Davenport University (Mich.).
The Baker small dance team will take the stage at 9:10 a.m., Apr. 12. The small dance finals will be held on Apr. 13 between 1:40 p.m., and 2:15 p.m. The hip-hop squad will perform later in the day on Friday at 7:06 p.m. All events will be held in the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla.
