Baker didn’t fare so well in game two as MNU jumped all over the Wildcats in a 12-0 rout. The Pioneers scored 10 runs in through the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.
Nathan Wheelock took the mound for the Wildcats on Saturday and finished with a dazzling 1-0 complete game shutout victory.
Baker scored its only run of the game in the fifth inning when Joshua Zach got the inning started after being hit by a pitch. After stealing second base, a misplayed Matt Fry ground ball to the infield scored Zach.
“I was actually more comfortable pitching from the stretch on Saturday,” said senior Nathan Wheelock. “For a while there I was afraid we might not get anyone across the plate, but once we had the lead it definitely helped my comfort level.”
Game two on Saturday saw the Wildcats fall 5-1 to the Pioneers. Baker tallied just three hits in the contest.
Baker (23-20, 11-7 HAAC) is currently tied with MidAmerica Nazarene for third place in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Western Division.
