Softball goes 4-0 on the week; MNU showdown looms

Maggie Holmberg

OLATHE, Kan. – A broken sprinkler head at Cavaness Field didn’t disrupt the BU softball team one bit as the Wildcats swept Peru State College on Saturday afternoon at Lone Elm Park in Olathe.

Baker knocked off the Bobcats 6-1 in the opener and Erin Greenwood closed out the nightcap with a 3-0 no-hit shutout.

Summer Kelley highlighted the Baker offense in game one with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third and Maggie Holmberg was stellar on the rubber giving up just one hit with one earned run and 10 strikeouts.

Greenwood stole the show in game two. Baker jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Greenwood picked up her ninth victory of the season while recording 10 strikeouts on the rubber and belting a two-run homer at the plate.

Both Kelley and Greenwood were the Wildcats‘ nominees for HAAC Player of the Week. The league office will announce the winners Monday afternoon.

Baker (16-9, 6-2 HAAC) travels to MidAmerica Nazarene on Apr. 10 for a key HAAC showdown with the Pioneers.
