Softball team closes grueling weekend 0-4

Bounce Back Week

CONWAY, Ark. – The Baker University softball team knew it would be put to the test against some of the nations best competition this past weekend as the Wildcats faced four nationally ranked opponents.

Baker opened up the weekend with a 8-0 loss to No. 25 Oklahoma Christian College on Friday morning and followed that up with a 8-7 loss to No. 4 Central Baptist College.

Maggie Holmberg made it just three innings in the opener, giving up eight earned runs on 12 hits. Erin Greenwood came on in relief to pitch two hitless and scoreless innings with four strikeouts.

The Baker bats came to life in the second game as Kayla Morse led the Wildcats going 2-for-2 at the plate with three RBI’s. Erin Greenwood went the distance pitching 8.1 innings before Central Baptist won the game in extra innings thanks to a game-winning single by Christen Kirchner.

Baker opened up Saturday’s action with a hard fought 1-0 loss to No. 18 Williams Baptist. Maggie Holmberg pitched a complete game, giving up just five hits with one earned run in the loss.

Saturday’s action closed with a 3-2 loss to Oklahoma Baptist University. Erin Greenwood and Kayla Morse each added RBI’s in the contest, but an early 3-1 lead by OBU sealed the game, as Baker would tack on one run in the sixth inning to close the final gap.

Baker (3-6) retuns to action on Mar. 13 when the Wildcats travel Southwestern College (Kan.) for a 4 p.m., doubleheader.
