Balanced scoring leads Baker past Central MethodistJoe Wachter

FAYETTE, Mo. – Five players scored in double figures and the Wildcats shot a lights out 62 percent from the field on Saturday to defeat Central Methodist University, 89-78 for their second consecutive victory.

Jack Shortell finished with a game-high 19 points while shooting 9-for-11 from the floor. Jordan Honore added 17 points going a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor. Ben Steinlage, Corey Anderson, and Joe Wachter each added 15, 14, and 11 points respectively.

“Coach Sherman and I joked about not shooting the ball well at the beginning of the game,” said head coach Brett Ballard. “Sure enough, once you start talking about it, we made some shots. I thought our guys shot it with confidence and we’ve been getting some good looks in conference and just not knocking them down. I don’t think it’s anything different. We made some, they made a lot early and we were able to sustain their run and then kind of held them off there late.”

Samer Jasser led the Wildcats defensively with seven rebounds and eight points. Corey Anderson’s double-digit performance was his sixth in his last seven games played and he finished the game 4-for-5 from beyond the arc.

Melvin Tillman finished the contest as Central Methodist’s leading scored with 17 points in a game that saw 13 lead changes. Baker (13-7, 6-3 HAAC) now sits in fourth place alone in the Heart of America Athletic Conference with a key showdown with third place Avila University (14-6, 7-2 HAAC) on Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m., in Kansas City, Mo.
