Wildcat basketball teams return to action Thursday and Friday

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – After nearly three weeks off since their last game, the Baker men’s and women’s basketball teams will return to action for two games in their respective holiday tournaments before New Year’s Eve.

The Baker women will be taking on Sterling College (5-6) in the Tabor Holiday Classic at 2 p.m., Dec. 30 and close out the tournament against host Tabor College (2-10) at 5 p.m., Dec. 31.

Baker enters the contest 1-11 overall and 0-3 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play. Alisha Fanshier is the only Wildcat currently averaging double figures with 13.3 points per game. Senior Gloria Atanmo ranks second on the team with 9.5 points per game.

The revamped Baker University men’s basketball team will look to keep its early season hot streak alive in the San Diego Classic, where the Wildcats will face Point Loma Nazarene (6-3) at 5 p.m. CST Dec. 29, and close out the tournament against San Diego Christian (3-4) at 5 p.m. CST Dec. 30.

The Wildcats enter the tournament 9-3 overall and 2-1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Jordan Honore (12.4 ppg.) and Ben Steinlage (10.4 ppg.) are currently the only two Wildcats averaging in double figures. Defensively, junior Samer Jasser currently ranks No. 37 nationally with 15 blocks on the season.
