Baker Men Sweet 16

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – The Baker University men’s soccer team returns to the final round site of 16 teams for the first time since 2008. Third-ranked Baker (18-1-1) will square off with unseeded Hutson-Tillotson (Texas) at 5 p.m., CST Nov. 28 from the Orange Beach Sportsplex.

“We’ve got a chance to showcase what we’re all about now on the national stage,” said head coach Nate Houser. “This is something the guys have been striving to get back to since our last appearance in 2008.”

Baker is coming off a 2-0 victory over Oklahoma Wesleyan in the NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship Opening Live VideoRound Game. Hutson-Tillotson (18-3-1) defeated Kansas Wesleyan 4-3 in their respective opening round contest.

Tom Lowndes and Odaine Sinclair continue to lead the Baker offense with 26 and 24 points respectively. Sinclair is the team-leading goal scorer with 10 tallies.

Defensively, Donny George continues to dazzle along with goalkeeper Matt Bickley. George ranks second on the team with seven goals, while Bickley currently ranks fifth nationally with a .620 goals against average.

Frank Toscano (36 points), Cesar Silva (29 points), and Catalino Rodriguez (24 points) look to pace the Hutson-Tillotson offense. Toscano leads the squad with 15 goals. Goalkeeper Marcos Sanchez (.750 goals against average) enters the contest with a 13-3 record in 2011.
