“The University of Iowa wrestling program is one of the most successful athletic programs in NCAA Division I history,” said Baker head coach Jimmy May. “Sports Illustrated recently named the Iowa program one of the top sports dynasties of the 20th century. We’re honored to be a part of this event.”
The Hawkeyes have racked up 23 National Championships since 1975, second in NCAA Division I history. They also enter the match with a 77-match unbeaten streak and the top ranking in the Top 25 NWCA/USA Today Wrestling Coaches’ Poll.
Baker enters the contest with an 11-0 all-time dual record, while currently ranking No. 15 in the 2011 NAIA Wrestling Coaches’ Top 20 Poll.
“The bottom line is our guys are going to benefit in a positive way from these duals,” May added. “We’re a young team that is striving to get better each and every day. We’re honored and humbled to face a team with such a storied history.”
Baker will first face the University of Iowa at 3 p.m., before quickly turning around to face-off with Iowa Central Community College at 5 p.m. Baker will close out the evening with a 7 p.m. showdown with Cornell College. All events will take place in Hawkeye Carver Arena.
Tickets to the event are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Live audio and video access of the duals can be viewed here.
Baker’s next marquee dual invitational will be held Jan. 7-8 when the team travels to the NWCA-Cliff Keen National Duals in Springfield, Ill.
