No. 24 Baker crushes Graceland in season finale, 50-14

LAMONI, Iowa – With the hopes of the NAIA playoffs still on the line, the Baker University football team knew it needed to win big Saturday afternoon – and the Wildcats did just that with a 50-14 victory over Graceland.

Baker (7-3, 6-3 HAAC) got on the scoreboard first as Scottie Meyer finished off a seven play 36-yard drive to put Baker ahead 7-0 with 8:03 on the clock in the first quarter. Myer would add another score four minutes later on another seven play 56-yard drive.

Xavier Lewis added to the total as he capped off a seven-play 47-yard drive just before the end of the quarter.

Baker opened up the second quarter with a safety against the Yellowjackets to push the score to 23-0. Kyle Rooks would touchdown just three minutes later to put Baker ahead 30-0.

Andrew Kimrey drilled a 41-yard field goal with 3:24 on the clock before the break, but the Wildcats managed to get the ball back, going 36 yards in just under three minutes as Jake Morse scored on a quarterback keeper to give the Wildcats a 40-0 lead at halftime.

Baker opened the second half with a 47-yard field goal by Andrew Kimrey, before Graceland finally got on the scoreboard with a 77-yard touchdown pass from Taylor Saunders to Rayshawn Brown.

Baker quickly responded with a nine play 55-yard drive four minutes later as Jake Morse scrambled into the endzone.

Graceland got on the scoreboard one more time late in the fourth quarter as Taylor Saunders and Rayshawn Brown connected again, pushing the final score to 50-14.

John Babb finished as the ‘Cats leading rusher with 23 carries for 102 yards. Scottie Meyer had 12 carries for 74 yards with two touchdowns.

Jake Morse finished the game with 60 yards, completing 7-of-14 attempts with two keeper touchdowns. Baker finished the game with 351 yards of total offense. Graceland (1-9, 1-8 HAAC) finished the contest with 173 yards of total offense on 57 plays.
