“Going into overtime we asked the guys to continue with the high energy,” said head Baker men’s soccer coach Nate Houser. “We wanted to give ourselves a chance to win the game by getting the guys up field. Tom (Lowndes) finished with a great ball to the far post.”
Both teams had their chances throughout as Baker and Hastings each recorded five shots on goal in the contest. Baker goalkeeper Matt Bickley’s five saves were good enough for his seventh shutout of the season.
“I thought the game was a fantastic challenge for both teams,” Houser added. “Hastings gave us enough respect to give us a game late in the season and we showed up with a good effort. I don't think either team is a finished product yet, and we’re looking forward to the tough conference tests we have ahead of us.”
The Broncos loss was their first since Nov. 12, 2009 against Midland Lutheran College.
The Wildcats return to action on homecoming Saturday in Baldwin City against Benedictine College (12-1, 3-1 HAAC) at 8 p.m., from Liston Stadium.
