Baker men jump to No. 5 nationally; women hold at No. 19

No. 5 Nationally

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Baker University men’s soccer team broke into the NAIA top-five after defeating No. 20 Graceland, 4-0 last Saturday in Baldwin City.

The Baker women held steady at No. 19 after defeating Graceland 3-2 Saturday, giving the Yellowjackets their first regular season conference loss in over five years.

Both the men and women return to action on Oct. 12 against MidAmerica Nazarene at 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. in Olathe, Kan.

NOTES: (All information dates back to 2000) No. 2 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and No. 3 Rio Grande (Ohio) are members of the Mid-South Conference... After being ranked for the first time this year on Sept. 20, No. 9 Concordia (Calif.) is in the top 10 for the first time since 2009... There have been 43 programs ranked in seven polls this season and 14 of those have held a spot each week... With seven No. 1 rankings earned in 2011, Hastings is sixth on the list for the most top billings all time... No. 3 Rio Grande has been ranked in the top 10 for the last 30-straight polls, dating back to the start of the 2009 season... Rio Grande holds the most No. 1 mentions since 2000 with 36... Overall, there have been 16 different teams to claim the No. 1 spot, after Rio Grande there is Lindsey Wilson in second (31), followed by Bethel (Tenn.) (11), Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) (9), Hastings (7), Azusa Pacific (Calif.) (5) and Concordia (Calif.) (5)... Lindsey Wilson holds the distinction of being consecutively ranked the longest among active schools - 51-straight polls, dating back to the 2007 Preseason Top 25 Poll... Rio Grande is next in line with 45, followed by Azusa Pacific with 38 and Hastings with 36... Since 2000, two teams have rattled through the entire season ranked No. 1 - Bethel in 2009 and Rio Grande during the 2004 season.
