The Wildcats, 7-4 last fall, have posted four consecutive winning seasons, including a 22-11 mark the past three years.
“We are proud of our accomplishments and national rankings in the past four years, but we need to take another step in the development of our program,” said head football coach Mike Grossner, entering his eighth season guiding the Wildcats. “We need to get back to the stage and take a shot at a national playoff run.”
Ottawa finished 9-2 last season, including a season-opening 24-14 victory over Baker in the first meeting between the two schools since 1993.
Wildcat sophomore Jake Morse returns at quarterback. He completed 99 of 169 passes for 1,307 yards with nine touchdowns last season after transferring from the University of Kansas.
Top returning running backs are sophomore Scott Meyer (156 carries, 656 yards, nine touchdowns) and senior John Babb (73 carries, 384 yards, three TDs). Junior Jake Green, a Lawrence High product, is the top returning receiver (28 receptions, 460 yards, one TD).
Junior linebacker Adam Steele is the top defensive returner, recording 99 tackles to rank second on the squad last fall. Also back on defense is Ryder Werts, a junior linebacker who redshirted last season after recording 49 tackles in 2009.
