Football and basketball standout Nick Wilson signs with Baker
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Nick Wilson, a 6’7 forward and place kicker from Paola High School has signed a national letter of intent to play next season at Baker University.
Wilson, a Paola, Kansas native was a first team all-frontier league performer in basketball and football this past season. Wilson averaged 16.1 points and 7 rebounds in his senior season for basketball and went 55-for-57 on PAT’s and 8-for-9 on field goals during the football season.
“Nick is a very mobile and skilled big man,” said head basketball coach Brett Ballard. “He has the ability to play both inside and out and I really like the skill set he brings to the court. He played for a great high school coach and understands the game. I believe he is going to be a great player for us over the next four years.”
Head football coach Mike Grossner also believes Wilson can step in and contribute immediately.
“Nick can be a real good college kicker. He is a rare breed at 6-7 and left footed. He could have played another position as well, but was too valuable to risk injury. His soccer background helped his transition to kicking a football. Both sports will benefit from this athleticism. We’re excited to have Nick on board.”
The Baker University football team will be holding its annual spring Alumni Game on May 7th. Be sure to come out and get an early glimpse at the 2011 Wildcat football team.
