Wildcats roll to victory over Haskell Indian Nations University
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker women’s softball team continues to ride a hot streak after sweeping Haskell Indian Nations in a doubleheader on Wednesday evening for its eighth-straight victory.
Game one saw the Wildcats jump out to an early lead from which they never looked back. Baker plated six runs in the second inning thanks hot hitting and poor fielding by Haskell.
Katie Worley led the Wildcats going 3-for-3 with a double, triple and three RBI’s. Maggie Holmberg, Erin Greenwood and Kim Gilges all chipped in with RBI’s.
Heather Gruber pitched five innings of scoreless ball in the 8-0 shutout giving up just six hits with five strikeouts.
Game two wasn’t any different as the Wildcats jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to two-run homer by Renata Dill in the first inning. Brooke Allen and Brittany Vollenweider also added homers as the Wildcats set the single season school record for home runs with 19 on the season.
Brittany Vollenweider pitched a complete game 6-0 shutout giving up just six hits with three strikeouts.
Baker will return to action on Friday afternoon in a first place showdown with MidAmerica Nazarene University at 5:00 p.m.
