Baker Relays switched to Friday due to predicted weather conditions this weekend

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The weather seems to change constantly during this time of year in Kansas. The 2011 Baker Relays weren’t spared from the wrath as head coach Zach Kindler announced the Relays will now take place on Friday, March 25, 2011. They were originally planned to take place on Saturday, March 26th.

“Friday’s weather looks a little better in regards to the temperature which will put our student-athletes at less risk for injury,” said Baker athletic director Theresa Yetmar. “We’re working with our professors to make this a smooth transition for our student-athletes in regards to missing class time.”

Running and Field events will begin on a rolling schedule at 12:30 p.m. Due to the time restraint; a minimum will be placed on all throws in the field events.

(Nine advancing to finals in throws/ jumps; pole vault and high jump will follow regular procedure.)

GENERAL INFORMATION

Throwing events will have a minimum, all first legal throws will be measured and then proceeding marks will follow the minimums listed below.

Time: Field Events begin @ 12:30 p.m. | Running events begin @ 12:30 p.m.

Entries: Open to all collegiate programs and pre-approved unattached athletes, with no limit on the number of entries per institution per event.

Entry deadline will be Wednesday, March 23rd at 12:00 p.m.

Entry Fee: $15 per athlete or $125 per team ($250 combined men's and women's.)

Scoring: Collegiate team scores will be kept. 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 scoring system will be used.Stock Image

Awards: Baker Relay Awards will be given to all individual and relay champions.

Facilities: All weather track- 8 lanes (2006 construction.) Javelin runway is all-weather, and is located behind the baseball field. The long jump board is 10' from the landing area. Triple jump boards are located at 26' 31' 36' & 41'

Spike Length: All spikes must be ¼ inch (or less) pyramid shaped and will be inspected at check-in. Athletes found to have spikes other than this will not be permitted to compete. Athletes caught wearing non-approved spikes will be removed from the facility. Javelin athletes are permitted to wear 1/4 inch pyramid shaped spikes on the javelin runway.

Implements: All throwing implements will be weighed-in between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Implements will not be weighed-in after 12:00 p.m. so please insure all implements are brought to the weigh-in station between 10:30am and 12:00 p.m. Please clearly mark all implements with your school name.

Trainers: Athletic trainers will be in attendance under the supervision of Lynn Bott, Director of Sports Medicine.

Results: Event results will be posted on the Liston Stadium (East Side Notice Board) immediately following the conclusion of each event. Awards may be collected from the press box area shortly after the results have been announced/posted. Final Baker Relay results will be available to all head coaches immediately following the conclusion of the last event. Results will also be posted at www.bakerwildcats.com

Concessions: Food and beverages will be available at the Liston Stadium Concessions Stand beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Parking: All team vans must park on the north side of Liston Stadium (this is the largest parking lot). Team charter buses will also park on the north side of Liston Stadium, but they will be permitted to park on the closed road between the stadium and the parking lot.
