Renata Dill’s walk-off homer powers Baker past Bethany
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University softball team struggled to get runs across, but at the end of the day it was freshman Renate Dill coming through with the walk-off 2-run home run to give the Wildcats a 3-2 victory in game one.
Maggie Holmberg picked up the victory pitching seven innings while giving up just four hits and one earned run with three strikeouts. Brooke Allen (2-for-2) and Holmberg (1-for-3) were the only other Wildcats to record hits in the contest.
Game two saw Brooke Allen leadoff with a home run and Baker (9-9) slowly added to that tally putting together runs in the third and fourth inning. Bethany (12-17) made a push in the fifth inning scoring two runs, but Baker held tough and closed the game out late.
Erin Greenwood came on in relief during the sixth inning and gave up just one hit with three strikeouts to close out the game.
The Wildcats return to action on Thursday afternoon when they open up conference play at William Jewell College.
