Baker softball splits with Friends University
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Lady ‘Cats faced a difficult task Wednesday afternoon taking on the Friends Falcons (13-5).
The first game of the doubleheader started as a pitchers’ dual as Maggie Holmberg blanked the Falcons for the first five innings before giving up three runs in the sixth. Baker drew first blood in the fourth inning when Katie Worley beat out the throw to home off of Holmberg’s single. In the fifth inning the Wildcats loaded the bases and were able to bring in four runs. Tara Heinrich and Erin Ford started the inning with singles. Brooke Allen hit for an RBI single and Erin Greenwood’s double scored two more runs. Maggie Holmberg went the distance for the Wildcats as they pulled off a 5-3 victory.
The second game Baker started off with one run apiece in the first two innings, however they fell apart defensively in the fourth inning surrendering eight runs. Baker was only able to muster one more run before falling 3-8.
Baker (7-9) will return to action on March 19th for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. in Baldwin City against Culver-Stockton College.
