Wrestling takes home two NAIA All-Americans at NAIA National ChampionshipsLevi Calhoun

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Baker University wrestling tem closed out a successful 2010-11 campaign this past weekend at the NAIA Wrestling National Championships in the U.S. Cellular Center. Baker finished with 33.5 points, good enough for 16th overall out of 39 teams. The Wildcats also crowned two NAIA All-Americans in Jarell Price (Las Vegas, Nev.) at 149 pounds and heavyweight Levi Calhoun (Moore, Okla.).

“I couldn’t be more proud of the way these guys performed in their second season of existence,” said head coach Jimmy May. “Levi and Jarell will go down in the Baker history books. They will always have the that to hang their hat on. They were the first-ever to become All-Americans for our program.”

Notre Dame (Ohio) successfully defended its 2010 title to become the ninth team to win back-to-back titles and marked the 16th team that a team has won consecutive championships in the event’s 54-year history.

Softball splits at CBC Meltdown

CONWAY, Ark. – The Baker University softball team is off and running in the 2011 season. This past weekend the Wildcats split a weekend series at the CBC Meltdown.

Friday’s action saw the Wildcats drop two games to Southern Nazarene (Okla.) and Oklahoma Christian College by respective scores of 3-0 and 2-1. Saturday the Wildcats’ bats got hot and put of 16 runs over the course of two games with victories over Bacone (Okla.) and Southwestern College.

Erin Greenwood led the Wildcats in the 8-1 victory over Bacone College going 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI’s. Brooke Allen added two RBI’s as Baker improved to 3-6 on the season.

Game four saw the Wildcats defeat Southwestern College by a score of 8-0. Freshman Renata Dill and Erin Greenwood led the way with a pair of homeruns to pace the Wildcats to victory.

Baker will return to action on Wednesday afternoon as it hosts Southwestern College at Cavaness Field in a 3 p.m., doubleheader. The Wildcats currently own a 4-6 overall record on the season.

The Baker University baseball team had its Sunday doubleheader postponed until Monday afternoon due to poor weather at Culver-Stockton College.
