LEAVENWORTH, Kan. - The Wildcat baseball team split its Wednesday afternoon doubleheader with the St. Mary’s Spires. The two games played out exactly the opposite of each other.

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Wildcats had the bats cracking and the pitching was solid. Chris Cummins took the first pitch and set the tone for the Baker defense. Cummins struck out three of the six batters he faced. In the second inning, Brandon Truitt and Jared Herbert led off with back-to-back singles. Bryan Kindle hit a double to score Truitt. A wild pitch and an error brought in the two other runs for the Wildcats.

Sean McAlister, Josh Vossen, Zach Durr, and James Gricol all made appearances on the mound for Baker securing the 4-3 victory.

The second game St. Mary’s took an early 3-0 lead and held off a seventh inning rally by the Wildcats to take game two, 3-1. Costly errors and quiet bats cost the Wildcats a victory. In the bottom of the seventh inning Steven Stewart, Kindle, and Herbert all reached on walks. Jose Orozco was only able to bat one run in on his single to left field. With the bases loaded, Justin Lane grounded into a double play to end the ballgame.
