Basketball teams look to go out in style on Senior Day

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University basketball teams will look to close out the regular season in style on Saturday afternoon against Graceland University.

The Baker women’s basketball team (14-15, 9-10 HAAC) has already wrapped up a postseason berth in the postseason conference tournament. Baker could climb as high as a No. 5 seed or drop as far as a No. 8 seed.

The Lady Cats‘ continue to get solid offensive production from seniors Brittany Hines (14.1 ppg), Emily Gibson (14 ppg) and Aubree Gustin (10.4 ppg).  Gibson currently ranks No. 6 nationally with 64 total blocks on the season, while Gustin sits a No. 8 nationally with a free throw percentage of 87.

Graceland (13-14, 7-11 HAAC) enters play jockeying for position with Missouri Valley College for the eighth and final spot in the HAAC Playoffs. The Yellow jackets and Vikings will face each other on Monday evening due to their postponed game on Thursday.

Tipoff is set for 2 p.m., with the senior recognition taking place between the men’s and women’s games.

The Baker men’s basketball team (12-17, 8-11 HAAC) enters play on the cusp of earning a bid into the HAAC postseason tournament for the first time since the 2008-2009 season. With a win, the Wildcats could jump as high as a No. 5 seed in the standings depending on the outcomes of the other games taking place on Saturday.

Jaris Wommack continues to lead the team offensively with 16.7 points per game. Andre Strozier is the only other Wildcat averaging in double figures with 12.7 points per game.

Graceland (12-16, 7-11 HAAC) enters play in a similar situation to Baker. The Yellow jackets currently hold the tiebreaker over the Wildcats with its victory in Lamoni.

Tipoff is set for 4 p.m., with the senior recognition taking place before the game.
