Lady Cats‘ softball team opens up the season on Friday

Softball Team

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Wildcat softball team kicks off the 2011 campaign with a trip to Fort Worth, Texas for the Cowtown Classic. Pool play begins Friday February 18th against stiff competition.

The first match up is against Northwood University (Texas). Last season Northwood (33-24, 20-8 RRAA) finished third in the highly competitive Red River Athletic Conference.

The second game features the Wildcats and the red hot Lady Rams of Texas Wesleyan. The Lady Rams are off to a 2-0 start behind a loaded offense. First basemen Christina Kelley hit for a cycle in the first game of the year. Also in that game senior pitcher Ashley Tarrant became the all-time strikeout leader in Lady Ram’s history.

The final game of the day for the Wildcats is against nationally ranked Lubbock Christian.  The Chaps begin the season ranked fifth after an impressive year last season. Lubbock Christian finished first in the Sooner Athletic Conference and finished third in the final NAIA Coach’s Poll.

Bracket play will start Saturday.
