Basketball teams set to face Benedictine College Thursday night

Baker vs Benedictine Preview

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker men’s and women’s basketball teams return to the hardwood on Thursday evening when they host Benedictine College at 5:30/7:30 p.m., from the George F. Collins Center.

The Baker women (11-9, 6-4 HAAC) are coming off back-to-back defeats for only the second time this season. Senior Brittany Hines continues to lead the team offensively with 14.9 points per game, while Emily Gibson (14.0 ppg) and Aubree Gustin (10.1 ppg) are the only other players averaging in double figures.

Opponents have shot nearly 10 percent better over the last two games from beyond the arc in comparison to the rest of the season against Baker. The Wildcats will need to adjust quickly as Benedictine (13-6, 6-3 HAAC) is ranked No. 32 nationally with 6.4 three-point field goals made per game.

The Baker men’s basketball team (8-12, 4-6 HAAC) is coming off one of its best stretches of the season, after defeating rival MidAmerica Nazarene University and Graceland University this past week.

“Any time you can win two games in a row in this league it’s a real confidence booster for our guys,” said head coach Brett Ballard. “Over this past month we’ve played some of our best basketball yet. I hope everyone can get out here on Thursday night and check out the game.”

Jaris Wommack leads all Baker scorers with 16.6 points per game and ranks 12th nationally with a 45 percent three-point field goal percentage. Andre Strozier is the only other Wildcat averaging in double figures with 11.7 points per game.
