Men’s basketball gives back to Douglas County

Holiday Shopping

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – With the holiday spirit fresh in the air, the Baker men’s basketball team took some time to give back to the local community this past weekend.

The men’s basketball players and staff raised money to purchase gifts for families in need. “I was very proud of our guys for stepping up and giving back to some folks in need for Christmas,” said head coach Brett Ballard. “Obviously we are very fortunate and had a great opportunity to give back. With two little kids at home, it’s especially fulfilling for me to know that that there will be some kids in Douglas County receiving gifts on Christmas morning.”

After the coaching staff and players raised an adequate amount of money the players received a list from which the players used to pick out the toys for the kids. “The seniors did a great job picking out the items they thought each family member could use and appreciate,” Ballard added. “Picking out the toys for the little kids was probably their favorite part and touched all of our hearts the most.”

The Wildcats (4-7 overall, 1-3 HAAC) will return to action on Dec. 31st when they travel to Columbia, Mo., to face William Woods University in the Columbia College Classic. View the full schedule here
