Final Eight

The Wildcats and Cardinals will face each other on Thursday morning at 9 a.m., from the Jack Allen Soccer Complex
Due to poor playing conditions, the NAIA event staff has announced that all games scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 1 will be moved to Thursday, Dec. 2. The semifinal rounds will still go according to schedule on Friday, with the National Championship game to follow on Saturday evening.

DECATUR, Ala. – The Baker women’s soccer team made history Tuesday afternoon in Decatur, Ala., defeating fifth-seeded Martin Methodist University, 2-0 on a damp and cold afternoon.

After playing a scoreless first half in the rain, the Baker women looked poised to strike early in the second half.Janssens

“I think we had a solid start to the game,” said head coach Nate Houser. “We gave ourselves some confidence by having some chances in the first half, which helped us improve vastly in the second half.”

Alix Schiraldi got the scoring started in the 46th minute when she received a ball from Ashley Ukena. Schiraldi blasted the ball past a diving Hanit Schwarz, giving the Wildcats a lead from which they never looked back.

Martin Methodist (13-4-3) had its chances throughout. The Redhawks outshot the Wildcats on goal 9-to-5.

20 minutes later Carly Dickens setup Christine Janssens (pictured) to give the Wildcats a 2-0 advantage. Janssens weaved through two defenders and knocked the ball into the back corner of the net.

“Our girls really understand what team is all about,” added Houser.

Baker (13-5-4) will now face archrival William Jewell College (16-2-2) in the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championships quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon at 11 a.m.

“I think tomorrow will be similar to our conference battles,” Houser said. “We’re gonna do what we can to come out and make it a fight.”

During the regular season Baker tied William Jewell College 2-2 in double OT in Liberty Mo. The Wildcats defeated the Cardinals in the HAAC Finals, 2-1 to advance to the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship.
