HAAC Championship Game

LIBERTY, Mo. – The Baker women’s soccer team will have its shot at taking the 2010 Heart of America Athletic Conference Title (HAAC) on Friday evening when they face William Jewell College at 7 p.m.

Baker (10-5-4) is coming off victories against No. 5 Lindenwood in the quarterfinals and No. 1 Graceland in the semifinals. Alix Schiraldi continues to lead the team offensively with ten goals on the season; senior Christine Janssens follows closely behind with nine. The Wildcats will be without quarterfinals MVP Jen Sampson due to a red card she received against Graceland University on Wednesday night.

William Jewell College (14-1-2) has been nationally ranked throughout the entire 2010 season. Jewell enters Friday’s contest at No. 13 in the NAIA Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 poll. Sarah Franklin continues to lead the Cardinals with 24 goals on the season, good enough for second nationally. She ranks first nationally with eight game winning goals. Goalkeeper Kelli Sontag has been a consistent force in the net for Jewell, Sontag is averaging 2.94 saves per contest, while only allowing .9 goals, ranking her among the top-40 nationally.

“The girls have fought all year to get another chance at the conference championship,” said head coach Nate Houser. “With two hard fought overtime games, they’ve earned it and are ready to attack the opportunity.”
