Jaqua completed the 5-kilometer course in 19:00.86 to place second on a clear, windy day. Freshman Megan Rosa (fifth, 19:26.40), sophomore Lindsey Brown (sixth, 19:34.47) and senior Mary Loveland (eighth, 19:48.23) also finished in the top 10. Sophomore Devin Freeman (12th, 20:03.50), freshman Ashley McBride (18th, 20:19.01) and sophomore Corinna Papps (20th, 20:26.13) completed Baker’s top seven performances at the conference meet.
The Wildcats finished with 33 points to edge William Jewell, the team runner-up with 44 points. Jewell freshman Ajok Deng was the individual champion, finishing in 18:41.14. Baker’s Zach Kindler was honored as the conference women’s coach of the year.
In the men’s 8-kilometer race, the Wildcats compiled 70 points to place second behind Graceland (16).
Baker junior Chris Scheideman finished 10th overall in 26:52.60 to qualify for the national meet in two weeks. Sophomore Aaron Caldwell (11th, 26:59.78) and sophomore Corey Clark (12th, 27:03.38) were close behind their Wildcat teammate.
Sophomore Taylor Nall (17th, 27:28.30), sophomore Eric Larson (25th, 27:48.39), junior Justin Hill (26th, 27:54.99) and freshman Jason Berry (31st, 28:18.25) rounded out Baker’s top seven runners at the meet.
Graceland’s Yonus Gebretinais (24:58.18) and Neil Grundman (25:52.32) placed 1-2 to lead the Yellowjackets to the team title.
