Homecoming Preview

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - Coming off its biggest win of the season, the Baker football team will attempt to win two consecutive games for the second time this season on homecoming Saturday when they face Graceland at 2 p.m.

Last Saturday the Wildcats defeated No. 20 Benedictine College in a game they seemingly dominated for 45 minutes.

John Babb highlighted the offense, rushing for 146 yards on 25 carries with one touchdown.

Defensively, the Wildcats were stellar. Freshman Mike Stevenson highlighted the day recording five tackles and two interceptions. Adam Steele and Calvin Pearce also chipped in with 11 and nine tackles respectively.

“There’s no doubt in my mind we dominated and controlled that game,” said head coach Mike Grossner. “We lost our focus for about five minutes during the fourth quarter, but in the end we made some huge plays in the last two minutes to secure the victory.”

Graceland University (1-5, 1-6 HAAC) enters Saturday on a four-game losing streak, with its lone win of the season coming against Evangel University on Sept. 18.

The Wildcats know they might have let some opportunities slip early in the season, but that isn’t stopping the ‘Cats from having an end goal in sight.

“I think our goal at this point is to try and win out and get into the final NAIA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll,” Grossner said.
