Wildcats set to face high-flying Lindenwood

Baker vs Lindenwood

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Wildcats have reached a critical point in the season.

After dropping conference games against No. 10 Missouri Valley College and No. 6 MidAmerica Nazarene, the hopes of making a run in the NAIA postseason could hinge on the result of Saturday’s outcome against No. 6 Lindenwood, the 2009 NAIA national runner-up.

Baker (2-3, 2-2) found its offensive groove in the past two games.  The Wildcats racked up 859 yards of total offense to go along with 15 touchdowns in their victories over Avila and Culver-Stockton.

Freshman Scott Meyer continues to lead the rushing attack, averaging 51 yards per game with four touchdowns.

Freshman quarterback Jake Morse has matured in almost every game he’s played. Morse threw for a career-best 220 yards against Culver-Stockton College with two touchdowns.

“We’ve gotta play similar on offense against Lindenwood,” Baker head coach Mike Grossner said. “If we can control the football, I think we’ll be in good shape.”

Defensively, the Wildcats have held their opponents to only 27 points on three touchdowns while giving up 513 yards the past two games.

“Lindenwood creates a lot of mismatches on the outside,” Grossner added. “We’ve gotta be good at containing them and tackling in the open space.”

Lindenwood (4-1, 4-1) enters Saturday with the top-scoring offense in the conference at 51 points per game while amassing 558 yards per contest.ThinkPink_button2

Lindenwood dropped its first game of the season on Sept. 25, falling to MidAmerica Nazarene, 26-10, in Olathe, Kan.

All fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Zeta Tau Alpha sorority will be selling ThinkPink t-shirts and balloons at the main entrance.
