The Baker women (5-1) will get the action started at 3 p.m. Friday against No. 19 John Brown University (2-0-1). The Wildcats enter play riding a five-game winning streak. The women dropped their season opener against Southern Nazarene and haven’t looked back since.
With the return of Alix Schiraldi, the Wildcats have held their opponents to just three goals in five games. During that stretch, Schiraldi has netted eight goals, while Christine Janssens has chipped in with five. Goalkeeper Maggie Dupes enters play having recorded four shutouts on the season.
“The women start the weekend with John Brown, a fantastic Top 20 team from the very strong Sooner Athletic Conference,” said head coach Nate Houser. “They are tall, athletic and very experienced.”
The women will play Bellevue University (2-2) at 3 p.m. Saturday.
The Baker men (3-2) will take the field after the women’s games on Friday and Saturday. The men will face Hannibal LaGrange College (4-1) at 5:30 p.m. Friday before playing No. 15 Westminster College (6-1) at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
“The men face a big challenge this weekend,” Houser said. “Two teams with very different styles are coming to Baldwin City, and both are very good. Hannibal LaGrange was in the top 10 all of last year, and Westminster is currently in the top 20. This weekend will be a great test to measure what we have learned so far.”
Nate Byarly, Steven Stewart and Tom Lowndes lead the Baker men with two goals apiece.
