Volleyball team set to begin conference play

Players of the Week

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Baker’s volleyball team will be a force to be reckoned with this season.

The Wildcats completed another successful weekend, going 2-2 in the Bellevue Labor Day Invitational to even their overall record at 4-4.

The weekend began with a 1-3 loss to No. 18 Morningside on Friday afternoon and a 3-0 win over Concordia University (Neb.) on Friday evening.

Saturday’s action saw the Wildcats drop an early morning match to No. 20 Doane College, 1-3. The Wildcats were resilient yet again, finishing the weekend with a 3-0 victory over Midland Lutheran College.

Sophomore setter Jana Boss led the team with 133 assists. On Monday, Boss was named HAAC Setter of the Week.

Defensively, junior libero Brooke Allen led the way with 79 digs. Allen was named HAAC Libero of the Week.

“Playing some of these ranked teams early in the year should be beneficial for us heading into the thick of HAAC play,” said head coach Kathy Allen.

The Wildcats will square off with William Jewell College (3-1) at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8.

The first home match is Friday, Sept. 10, when the Wildcats face McKendree at 5 p.m. Baker will play host to Oklahoma City University at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10. All matches are part of the Baker Invitational.

All Baker games on Friday and Saturday will be televised via Ustream.TV, links to the broadcast can be found on the 2010 schedule page.
