BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - Head coach Matt Windle has an understanding of what his Baker softball team will encounter when it faces Central Methodist University (25-15, 9-7) Tuesday night with a playoff berth on the line.
The Wildcats (16-28, 6-12) come into play needing just one more win to qualify for the 2010 HAAC Playoffs. Baker currently holds down the No. 8 seed, just one game in front of Culver-Stockton College. Baker and Culver-Stockton split their season series in Canton, Mo., therefore the tie-breaker moves to run differential. CSC holds this advantage by eight runs.
"Ultimately our season comes down to one game on Tuesday night," said head coach Matt Windle. "We need to get as many fans as we can out to the game, it's probably one of the most important we've had in recent memory," Windle said. It would be the team's first playoff-berth since 2006.
Sophomore Brooke Allen continues to lead the charge offensively with a .366 batting average. Junior Katie Worley is the key run producer with 17 RBIs on the year.
Ultimately, the game will be put in the hands of freshman standout Heather Gruber. Gruber comes into play with 13 wins and a 3.33 ERA.
"Heather doesn't go out and dominate games, she does give us our best chance to win every time she's out there. We have to make sure our bats get behind her for support," said Windle.
Game one is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m., with the nightcap following immediately after. View the full game notes here
