Baker men split with Graceland University
Joey Orozco

Joey Orozco scores the game winning run in the nightcap sliding head-first.

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - It was a tale of two stories on Sunday afternoon, as the Baker men dropped the first game of a twinbill, 4-3 and won the nightcap 7-6 in extra innings.

Game one saw senior pitcher Dustin Moomau throw four innings giving up three runs on seven hits. Graceland scored three runs in the top of the third before Baker was able to inch back and tie the game up 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth. Graceland countered the Baker effort notching one run in the top of the seventh to seal the victory, 4-3.

Game two saw Baker come out victorious with a walk-off single courtesy of Jeremy Wright in extra innings. Freshman Bryce Daily pitched six stellar innings giving up no runs on three hits.

Bullpen woes almost haunted the Wildcats. The Baker bullpen gave up six runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Baker had a 3-0 lead heading into the seventh before Graceland mounted a four-run comeback effort to grab the 4-3 lead.  Baker then mounted a comeback of its own, rallying to score one run in the bottom half of the inning to send the game into extras.

Graceland scored two runs in the top of the eigth inning to push its lead to 6-4. With two outs and nobody on base, the Wildcats created a little magic. Jared Herbert reached on walk to start things off, Brandon Truitt followed suit with a single to right field advancing Herbert to second. Joey Orozco re-entered the game and earned a walk to load the bases for Andrew Gibson. Gibson singled to right field scoring two-runs and tying the game up at 6-6. Jeremy Wright saved the day. Wright ripped a single to shallow right field scoring Joey Orozco as the Wildcats went on to earn 7-6 split victory heading into Monday's series finale with Graceland in Lamoni, Iowa.
