Opening round games are scheduled for this week, as the women host Avila University on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
The Baker women earned a No. 4 seed in the playoffs after a season in which they went 17-13 overall and 13-7 in HAAC play. Avila University, receiving the No. 5 seed, went 19-11 on the year and 13-7 in conference.
The Wildcats are led by junior Emily Gibson (Kansas City, Mo.) who is currently averaging 15.1 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. Gibson ranks No. 3 nationally with 16 double-doubles on the season. Juniors Aubree Gustin (Topeka, Kan.) and Brittany Hines (Hutchinson, Kan.) will be the keys to the game. Hines is averaging 9.5 points while Gustin follows close behind at 9.4.
Avila University comes into play with one of the most balanced squads in the conference.
Junior Alyson Young (Springfield, Mo.) leads the Heart of America Athletic Conference with 18.8 points per game. Senior Jamie Kenney (Clinton, Mo.) and junior Courtney Gimlin (Ozark, Mo.) also average double figures in scoring, with 13.3 and 12.6 points per game respectively.
Young will be questionable prior to Thursday¹s game due to a dislocated finger.
In its previous two meetings this season, Baker won in Baldwin City 62-52 on Feb. 11th and fell to Avila in Kansas City on Feb. 22.
