Baker men take fourth, women fifth at HAAC Indoor Championships
LAMONI, Iowa - The Baker University track and field squads competed at the 2010 HAAC Indoor Track and Field Championships held at Graceland University this past weekend. The women's team placed fifth overall with 87 points while the men ranked fourth, totaling 74 points over the two-day event.
The Lindenwood women's and men's squads swept the championship, with each team capturing the 2010 HAAC Indoor crown.
Four Baker women took home first-place in their respective events. Freshman Corinna Papps (1000 Meter Run); junior Carrie Lister (Shot Put); senior Kayla Irwin (Pole Vault); and Shay Mangiaricino (Pentathlon).
On the men's side, senior Brian Korn led the way for the Wildcats taking home second-place in the Shot Put with a mark of 15.31-meters (50.3 feet).
The WIldcats will be back in action March 4-6 at the NAIA Indoor National Championships in Johnson City, Tenn.

Baker wrestlers finish fifth at NAIA Central Regional
- Ten Wildcats will travel to Oklahoma City, Okla. for the NAIA National Championships.
OSKALOOSA, Iowa - First year wrestling program Baker University competed in their first ever post-season competition by traveling through a grueling snow storm to compete in the Central Region Qualifying tournament at region host William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Heading into the qualifying tournament, the Wildcats had already qualified 10 wrestlers for the national championships in Oklahoma City on Marcy 3-5. But, at the NAIA level, schools can qualify and take a maximum of 12 wrestlers to nationals. Baker headed to Oskaloosa with hopes of qualifying its final two wrestlers.
At the end of the day, Baker would have to settle for their pre-qualified 10 wrestlers with freshman Brett Delich (141, Shawnee, Kan.) falling short of qualification by one match.
Baker finished fifth in the team standings with 79 points out of the nine teams in the region. The Wildcats finished behind fourth place Waldorf (Iowa), third place Oklahoma City (Okla.), runner-up Missouri Valley (Mo.) and team champion Grandview (Iowa).
The Baker Wildcat wrestlers will now set their sights on preparing for the NAIA National Championships in Oklahoma City, OK on March 3-5. The following ten Baker wrestlers will compete for national championships honors. At 125, freshman Alan Callahan (Baldwin City, Kan.) and Jordan McGuire (Edmond, OK) will represent the Wildcats. Junior Andrew Hurla (Edwardsville, Kan.) will compete for the Wildcats at 149 pounds. Freshman Nathan Sommer (Parker, Kan.) is the qualifier at 157. Two grapplers will represent Baker at 174 pounds. Freshman Joe Pace (Platte City, Mo.) and junior Clarence Jordan (Waterloo, IA) will battle for supremacy. At 184, freshman Cody Hanel (Beloit, Kan.) will look to make his mark as he did as a state champion at Beloit High School. Two Baker freshmen will compete at 197 pounds. They are Jacob Nowak (Overland Park, Kan.) and Brandon Gebhardt (Sparks, Nev.). Lastly, senior Levi Calhoun (Oklahoma City, Okla.) will represent the Wildcats at heavyweight.
The national championships are scheduled to begin on Thursday March 3rd at the Abe Lemons Arena on the campus of Oklahoma City University. For more information on the national championships, please see the information on our website.
