Wildcats overtake first place with 62-60 win over William Jewell
LIBERTY, Mo. - Free throws saved the day. Aubree Gustin scored 10 points, including two free throws with 5.2 seconds remaining in regulation, and Baker (9-6,5-0) held on to beat William Jewell (13-4,6-1) for the first time since 2007.
Emily Gibson recorded a game-high 15 points with nine rebounds and Brittany Hines chipped in with 14.
After William Jewell missed a layup that would have given the Cardinals the lead, the Wildcats got the ball into the hands of their most consistent free throw shooter. Gustin sank both free throws to give the Wildcats their marquee victory of the season.
"I think our win tonight really showed how much character this team has. Winning on the road is tough enough, but doing it without one of your starters (Cameron Roland) really shows what this team is made of," stated head coach Susan Decker.
Baker will be back in action on Saturday when they host Missouri Valley College (6-10, 3-3) at 2 p.m. at the George F. Collins Center.
