Baker looks to extend three-game winning streak
Fulton, Mo. – A tough nonconference schedule in November left the women’s basketball team with a 3-4 record through its first seven games. However, the Wildcats have turned it around of late and will enter Saturday’s game against William Woods winners of their last three, including last Tuesday’s victory in their HAAC opener against No. 24 Evangel.
Baker (6-4, 3-0 HAAC) will continue to rely on junior Emily Gibson to lead the charge. Gibson averages 14.9 points per game and 9.7 rebounds per game. On Monday, Gibson was named HAAC Player of the Week, averaging 19.3 points on .667 shooting to go with 14.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.7 steals. Gibson posted a career-high 27 points and 17 rebounds in the Cats’ 74-52 victory over Lindenwood University on Dec. 5. She has recorded five double-doubles on the season.
Junior Brittany Hines also had a stellar week, averaging 19 points while shooting 63 percent from beyond the arc.
William Woods is ranked No. 23 in this week’s NAIA women’s basketball top 25 poll. The Owls are 9-0 on the season.
William Woods received 55 votes in the preseason top 25 poll that was released on Oct. 26. The Owls are coming off a 62-57 victory over Haskell Indian Nations University on Dec. 5. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. in Anderson Arena.
