Basketball double header tonight in Collins CenterSeniors

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - Baker University’s men’s and women's basketball teams will be in action tonight when they host Friends University at the Collins Center. Tipoff for the women’s game is 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7:30 p.m

The Lady ’Cats (0-2) opened the season with losses to Northwestern Oklahoma State and No. 3 Oklahoma Baptist University at the Baker Classic. Baker is led by junior Aubree Gustin and junior transfer Brittany Hines, who both average 8 points a game

Friends (1-2) is led by Jessica Halsig, who averages 21 points per game while shooting 55 percent from the field.

Halsig ranks No. 16 nationally in total scoring. Mary Ornelio is the Falcons’ top defender with 7.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game

The Baker men (1-1) are coming off their first victory of the season. The Wildcats defeated Ottawa University 93-66 on Saturday at the Central Methodist Classic.

Newcomer Andre Strozier averages 16 points a game to lead the Baker offense. Team captain Malcolm Greer, a senior, has 8.5 rebounds a game to lead the Wildcats.

Friends University (0-3) is coming off a 74-69 loss to Morningside, the alma mater of Wildcat coach Rick Weaver.

Romar Jones (19 points per game and 3 steals per game) leads the Falcons.
