Family Weekend to be in full swing starting Friday afternoon


Baker Athletics will help kick-off family weekend starting at 1:00 p.m. Friday afternoon. The Baker women's volleyball team will be hosting the Baker Invitational in the George F. Collins Center. Participating teams include: William Jewell College, Avila University,Family Weekend Benedictine University, Ottawa University, Oklahoma City University, The University of Sioux Falls, and Park University. Baker will take on Park at 3:00 p.m. followed by Oklahoma City at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, Baker will take on Ottawa at 1:00 p.m. followed by Sioux Falls at 3:00 p.m. Brooke Pryor was named HAAC Player of the Week after a dominating weekend in Chicago. Baker volleyball currently holds an 8-1 overall record, and sits in 1st place in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.


The Baker University soccer teams will also be in action all weekend long. On Friday afternoon the Lady ‘Cats will take on No. 22 Olivet Nazarene (4-0-1) at 3:00 p.m. at North Park in Baldwin City. Alix Schiraldi currently leads the ‘Cats with 4 goals through the first four games of the season.

On Saturday afternoon the women will take on Southern Nazarene University at 2:00 p.m. at Lone Elm Park in Olathe, Kan.

The No. 8 ranked Baker men's soccer team will look to continue their early season dominance as well this weekend. Despite a tie in their recent road contest against No. 23 McKendree University, Baker University continues to move up in the national rankings. Baker currently sits at 2-0-1 on the season. Goalkeeper Alex Burton has recorded a shutout in every contest, and has made 11 saves on the season, averaging 3.7 per game. The Wildcats will take on No. 19 Vanguard University (2-1-0) Friday afternoon at 5:15 p.m. at North Park in Baldwin City. On Saturday afternoon the Wildcats will travel to Lone Elm Park to take on Southern Nazarene University at 4:15 p.m.


Capping off Family Weekend will be the "BLACKOUT" football game against 8th ranked MidAmerica Nazarene University (1-0). No. 12 Baker comes into the contest 0-1 after falling to No. 16 Missouri Valley College last weekend 14-34. Andrew Patch was named HAAC Defensive Player of the Week after returning a 57 yard interception for a touchdown. Patch had 3 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, 15 tackle yards for a loss, and 2 sacks. The Wildcats lost a heartbreaker last season to MidAmerica Nazarene in double overtime 41-42. MNU completed a 2- point conversion to win the game. Baker has not defeated MNU since 1999 when they won 31-28. Kick-off is slated for 6:00 p.m.
