Incoming freshman usually spend their summer hanging out with old high school friends and preparing to move into their first dorm. Kaitlyn Stout chose to go a different direction with her free time this summer. From July 21st to 27th Kaitlyn joined her church groups who traveled to Honduras for a vacation bible school for area children and helped build stoves in local homes.
The Men's Basketball team hosted a Summer Camp at Collins Gym from July 15th-18th. The camp offered 1-on-1 evaluation from Baker coaching staff along with current Wildcat players. The Wildcat basketball camp hosted nearly 40 players from grades 4-8 over the course of the youth camp.
Head coach Jamie Stanclift along with past and present Wildcat players hosted a Premier Invite Camp August 10th at Cavaness field. Partnering with the Baldwin City Recreation Commission, campers were offered offensive and defensive skill work as well as live game situations to further exhibit their skills and abilities to elite level NAIA coaching.
In conjunction with this years "County Line Clash" vs. Ottawa University, the two campuses competed in the annual "Tackling Hunger Food Drive." Over the course of a month Baker successfully collected 2,916 items to beat Ottawa Universities 673 items. All items collected by BU were donated to the Baldwin City Food Pantry.
Over the summer the Laury Tennis Courts received a minor face lift. The hitting wall, located on southwst side of the courts, got a fresh coat of Baker colors as well as a new Baker Tennis logo. The Baker Tennis team hosts Kansas Wesleyan on October 2nd at10am. Come out and cheer for your Wildcats!
On November 4th from 10:00am-4:00pm the Athletic Department will be partnering with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive in Mabee Gym. Pre-registration is encouraged but walk-ins are expected. Please contact Keith Demint or Todd Eils for more information (785)-594-4796. The blood drive takes place in the fall and spring semesters each school year. Help save a life and donate!
Homecoming weekend will be a busy and fun filled weekend. On October 5th our football team will host Mid America Nazarene while our two soccer teams host Graceland University all in one day out at historic Liston Stadium. Football kicks off at 2pm with womens and mens soccer following at 6/8pm.
Maple Leaf Festival Weekend
Maple Leaf Festival weekend will be a busy one with different events going on each day. Our athletic department will be working with various athletic teams to manage parking on Baker's campus. The event is a fundraiser for several teams like including baseball, wrestling, basketball, cheer, and dance. Maple Leaf takes place October 19th and 20th.
The Baker Volleyball team will have their annual Dig Pink match in support of breast cancer awareness on October 15th vs. MidAmerica Nazarene University. The match will start at 7:00pm in Collins Gym. The guest of honor will be former BU volleyball player Katie Jaschke, who is currently fighting breast cancer. Match proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Family Day & Armed Forces Night
The Baker Football team will have Family Day and Armed Forced Day on September 28th vs. Avila University. The game will start at 6:00pm at Liston Stadium with gates opening at 4:00pm.
Football Uniforms and Gloves
You may have noticed the new Adidas uniforms that were being worn during the Ottawa County line Clash football game. These are in fact brand new and come in 3 different colors. Along with the uniforms the Football team has purchased new gloves that when brought together represent the BU logo on the hands. These will not only help for recruiting but will be beneficial to the team as they perform.
