LINCOLN, Neb. - The Wildcat indoor track and field team competed in the Nebraska Wesleyan University Invitational over the weekend.

Several athletes had strong performances, including sophomore JL Anderson (pictured) who finished 6th in the 200 meter with a time of 22.67, and Devin Wilson who took 9th in the 400 meter with a time of 51.51. Taylor Nall also highlighted Baker’s weekend with a 9th-place finish in the 3000 meter. Nall clocked in at 9:01.18.

Baker caps finals week at KSU All-ComersBrian Korn

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Baker University men's and women's track & field teams ended a week of final exams by participating in the KSU All-Comers indoor meet, Saturday, December 12, in Manhattan, Kan.

Senior Brian Korn (pictured) posted a fourth-place finish in the men's shot put and finished seventh in the weight throw to lead the Wildcats.

Korn had an effort of 48-feet, 0.6-inches en route to the fourth-place finish in the shot put and 52-feet, 10-inch effort in the weight throw.

Baker tennis teams making strides heading into spring break trip

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University tennis teams are off to full action after playing their opening matches of the 2012 season.

The Baker women (1-2) opened the season with a 5-4 victory over Stephens College, before dropping back-to-back matches against Rockhurst and Johnson County Community College.

“I’m really looking forward to the rest of our season,” said Baker head tennis coach Joe Ahmadian. “We still have an incomplete line-up heading into our spring break trip, but we should be back at full strength once we get back.”

Tennis teams geared up for outdoor season

Men's Tennis

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. -The Baker tennis season is well under way as the men’s team remains winless and the women’s team holds a 1-2 record. The two losses for the men and women’s teams have come against NCAA DII squads. Both teams dropped the season opener against Newman University 9-0.

The women rebounded nicely against NAIA opponent Tabor College. Caitlin Metseff clinched the win for the women’s team with a 6-3, 2-6, (10-8) victory.

Former Baker tennis star named Head Tennis Coach

Joe Ahmadian will take over as head coach beginning July 1, 2010.

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - Former Baker tennis player Joe Ahmadian has been named the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Baker University, announced Baker Associate Athletic Director Theresa Yetmar on Thursday.

A Dallas product, Ahmadian was named the 2007 Baker University Athlete of the Year during his senior season before being named an assistant tennis coach at Baker in 2008.

After completing his degree in 2008, Ahmadian became a certified teaching professional at the Midtown Athletic Club in Overland Park, Kan. Ahmadian was an assistant coach at Free State High School in Lawrence, Kan., in 2009 while serving as the assistant head professional at the Jayhawk Tennis Facility.

Women record wins for Baker

St. Louis, Mo. — Junior Molly Flanigan and freshman Lauren Thames highlighted Baker University’s performance at weekend tennis matches in the St. Louis area.

Flanigan recorded her second win in two outings with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over McKendree’s Alison Holloway. Flanigan topped Megan Groninger of William Jewell the previous weekend.

Thames (pictured) brought home the other Baker victory with a 3-6, 6-2, 3-0 win over Lindenwood’s Andrea Aguilar, who defaulted.

William Jewell downs Wildcats

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - The Baker tennis teams fell to William Jewell 7-2 (men) and 8-1 (women) on Tuesday on the Laury Tennis Courts.

Sophomore Casey Gleue defeated Chad Kirkland (7-5, 6-2) for the only singles match win for the Wildcat men, and junior Molly Flanigan recorded the lone win for the women by defeating Megan Groninger (6-0, 6-3).

Baker’s Stephen Donly and Drew Richter paired up to earn a doubles win for the men. The duo defeated William Jewell’s Chris Dailey and Jake Szybowicz 9-8 (7-3).

Tuesday was also Senior Day for Keith Pipkin (pictured) and Taylor Bonar. Pipkin fell in his singles match 6-3, 6-0 and Bonar was defeated 6-0, 6-2.

The Wildcats are back in action this weekend as they take on McKendree University at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Louis, Mo. and Lindenwood University at 10 a.m. Sunday in St. Charles, Mo.

Tennis teams suffer rough weekendTennis Balls

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Baker University tennis teams traveled to Graceland University on Saturday afternoon and finished up the weekend on Sunday at No. 21 Northwest Missouri State.

Both the Baker men and women dropped their conference matches with Graceland University 9-0. The Baker men now stand at 3-4 overall, while the women stand at 2-5. Check back on www.bakerwildcats.com for full match results.

Both teams will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they play host to William Jewell College at 4:00 p.m.
