Baker set for Saturday showdown with Evangel

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker women’s basketball team will get the action started on Saturday afternoon when they host HAAC leader No. 20 Evangel University (13-7, 11-1 HAAC) at 2 p.m., from the George F. Collins Center.

Baker (13-10, 8-5 HAAC) is coming off a victory on Thursday night at Central Methodist University. The Wildcats had two players score in double figures as Emily Gibson scored a team-high 18 points and 12 rebounds. Aubree Gustin added 16 points as Baker pulled away late in the second half to secure the victory.

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker women’s basketball team took a 3-0 lead to open the game, but from that point forward it was all Evangel as the Crusaders grabbed a lead and never looked back.

Baker (13-11, 8-6 HAAC) shot just 6-for-22 (27 percent) in the first half, ultimately putting the Wildcats in a hole from which they couldn’t recover.

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker men’s basketball team needed to play a nearly flawless basketball game on Saturday afternoon according to head coach Brett Ballard.

The Wildcats managed to overcome 21 turnovers with a hot shooting second half going 11-for-19 (58 percent) from the field and 20-for-30 from the charity stripe.

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University softball team has received signed national letters of intent from Summer Kelley (Shawnee, Kan.) and Peyton Weekly (Gardner, Kan.) to enroll at the university and play for the Wildcats starting in the spring of 2012, head coach Matt Windle announced.

Track and field teams continue to pace towards nationals at NWU Triangular

LINCOLN, Neb. — Jeremy Gathright, Reggie Harris and Kellen Kristoffersen won individual men’s track and field events on Saturday, highlighting Baker University’s performances at the NWU Quad.

Gathright placed first in the triple jump (14.59 meters). Harris captured first place in the 55-meter dash (6.57 seconds), and Kristoffersen was victorious in the 800-meter run (2:02.76.). Harris also finished fifth in the 200 (23.66 seconds), and Gathright placed third in the long jump (6.66 meters).

Wrestling dual cancelled due to inclement weather

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - Due to the inclement weather, William Penn University (Iowa) has been forced to cancel their dual tonight with No. 20 Baker University.

Baldwin High School is also closed; therefore the high school will not be participating in the double dual as planned.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Picked to finish at our near the top of the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) in the preseason, Baker and Avila both sit in a prime position to make a move in the conference standings.

A victory for the Wildcats on Thursday would move Baker (13-11, 8-6 HAAC) into a tie for third place in the conference behind second place Lindenwood University (15-8, 10-4 HAAC). The Lions travel to Missouri Valley College on Thursday.

Ice cold shooting plagues Wildcats against Avila

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – One word comes to mind when you look at the game as a whole: Dismal.

The Baker women’s basketball team (13-12, 8-7 HAAC) played one of its worst basketball games of the season Thursday night, but still managed to keep the final deficit at seven points with a 56-49 loss.
