Gibson ties career-high in Senior Day victory over Graceland

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker women’s basketball team went out in style Saturday afternoon defeating Graceland University 68-59.

Emily Gibson (pictured) tied a career-high with 27 points while shooting 8-for-13 from the field and 10-for-13 from the charity stripe. She also pulled down 11 rebounds in the contest to record her ninth double double of the season. Brittany Hines was the only other Wildcat to score in double figures with 10 points.

Hines, Gibson and Gustin named to women’s basketball all-HAAC squad

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Three Baker University seniors grabbed all-Heart of America Athletic Conference women’s basketball honors on Sunday evening as Brittany Hines (Hutchinson, Kan.) and Emily Gibson (Kansas City, Mo.) were named to the all-HAAC second team while Aubree Gustin (Topeka, Kan.) received honorable mention.

Gibson leads the Wildcats with 14.3 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Hines averages 14.1 points per game while Gustin checks in with 10.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.

Wommack and Strozier named to men’s basketball all-HAAC squadStrozier and Wommack

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Two Baker University seniors grabbed all-Heart of America Athletic Conference men’s basketball honors on Sunday evening as Jaris Womack (Taylorville, Ill.) was named to the all-HAAC second team while Andre Strozier (Phoenix, Ariz.) received honorable mention.

Wommack led the Wildcats with 16.7 points and 1.7 steals per game. Strozier was the only other Wildcat averaging in double figures with 12.8 points per game.

Second season begins on Wednesday at Lindenwood for Baker women

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Coming off a big win on Senior Day over Graceland University, the Baker women’s basketball team will look to ride a new wave of momentum as it opens the Heart of America Athletic Conference postseason tournament on Wednesday evening at No. 2 seed Lindenwood University. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m in St. Charles.

During the regular season, the Wildcats (15-15, 10-10 HAAC) defeated Lindenwood 71-66 on Dec. 4 in Baldwin City but fell 76-62 on Jan. 29 in St. Charles. The Lions (20-9, 15-5) are coming off a 67-56 Senior Day victory over William Jewell College.

Baker women fall in opening round of HAAC Playoffs to Lindenwood 65-59

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Wildcats played a near flawless first half, but Lindenwood came out hot after the break hitting 11-of-19 shots to go on an early 9-0 run that ultimately doomed Baker.

Brooke Sanders scored a career-high 17 points to go along with five assists and two blocks. Brittany Hines was the only other Wildcat to score in double figures with 10 points. Sanders finished the game 6-for-9 from the field and 4-for-7 from beyond the arc.

2011 NAIA Wrestling National Championships Brackets Announced

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - (Brackets | PDF) Official brackets for the 2011 NAIA Wrestling National Championships have been released. Action in the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, will get underway Thursday at 11 a.m. CST. The 54th annual event will consist of six sessions, concluding on Saturday with the championship finals.

Eight Wildcats head to NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships

 GENEVA, Ohio - Eight Wildcats will represent Baker University at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field championships March 3-5 in Geneva, Ohio.

All of the Wildcats are ranked in the top 25 in their respective events, including top 10 rankings from Jeremy Gathright, Aaron Hannon, Jason Robbs and Jeremiah Korn. Hannon (No. 3, heptathlon), Gathright (No. 4, triple jump) and Robbs (No. 10, weight throw) attained their rankings from their performances at the HAAC Indoor. Korn (No. 4, shot put) had his best throw earlier in the season at the NWU Invitational.

Calhoun and Price advance to Championship Round at NAIA Nationals

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – (Updated Team Standings and Brackets | PDF) After day one of action, the Baker University wrestling team sits in 17th place overall at the 2011 NAIA Wrestling National Championships with 9.5 points.

Sophomore Jarell Price (Las Vegas, Nev.) and senior Levi Calhoun (Moore, Okla.) highlighted the Baker squad, as they were the only two wrestlers to advance to the championship round on Friday. In the 149-pound match, Price will collide with 2010 champion Jefferey Pelton (Notre Dame, Ohio).  As for the heavyweights, Levi Calhoun will face Orlando Scales (Notre Dame, Ohio) in his quarterfinal match.
