Ben Lister enters his second season as head coach for the Baker University women’s basketball team. Lister served as the assistant coach for four years at Barton Community College, where he was a part of two Jayhawk West titles for the Cougars, including a 34-3 mark during the 2007-08 season when Barton finished fourth in the nation. In his first four seasons coaching college, Lister compiled a 48-4 conference record.
Before Barton, Lister spent two years as the head coach for Manhattan Christian College (Kan.), compiling a 44-23 record. During his time at MCC, the team captured back-to-back regular-season conference championships, going undefeated both years in conference play. MCC captured a regional and conference championship in 2005-06, finishing with a 27-7 record to rank third all time on the school charts.
Coach Lister was named Central Region Coach of the Year in 2005-06. During his two years, MCC produced seven all-conference players, seven all-region players, two regional MVPs, one conference MVP and three All-Americans.
Prior to MCC, Lister was the assistant boys basketball coach for three years at Sunrise Christian Academy. Sunrise combined to go 76-28 during that time, winning the Tri-State Christian Tournament Championship, which included large private schools from Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Colorado. Coach Lister aided in the development of five athletes who signed to play collegiate basketball, including two who play at the NCAA Division I level.
Coach Lister played two years of college basketball at Manhattan Christian College in 1997-99. During his sophomore season, MCC finished 21-7, going 13-1 in conference play and they captured both the regular-season and tournament championships for its conference. In the championship game, Lister scored 18 points to help seal the championship for MCC.
