"Baker was so influential in my life and I truly enjoy giving back to BU Athletics . I don't hesitate to make the drive from Texas because I can't wait to spend time with my Baker friends and family."

Many years ago, Karl Spear needed funds to finance a spring golf team trip to Texas and requested a donation from prior golf team members. Upon his return, Coach Spear wrote about the trip and sent this report to those that donated. This led to an ongoing exchange between the two of us. The next spring, Coach Spear arranged for the two of us to play together in what was then called the Karl Spear Golf outing. This was later renamed for the Spring Golf outing.
With very few exceptions I have played in almost every one of the outings since that first outing. We have played at a number of courses and have had a delightful experience at each and every event with many happy memories. Playing with and against my father-in-law, a 1927 Baker graduate. He did not like it when I reached the age of 50 as I was playing in the then, senior class against him. He didn't think that was fair so he called Jerry Weakley and got him to change the age class to over 65. Playing in a foursome where our combined ages equaled 319 and we were all at Baker together.
The primary purpose is to raise more money for Baker Athletic teams and I think over the years we have done that. We need to do more. It's also important that we maintain our relationships we developed while at Baker and get together with our classmates and notice how much younger we are.

Two years ago, I experienced my first BU Alumni Golf Tournament and enjoyed it so much that I returned last year and am looking forward to this year's event! This was a great Baker-shot-in-the-arm of loyalty and spirit. On top of that, seeing old classmates and making new friends to share the joy of the BU pride was so special to me.
The golf tourney (rain or shine) and auction were so enjoyable I can't wait to see who I get to play with this year and what awesome auction items I can buy to support BU even more. As an out-of-state alumna, I also loved having the bookstore table available to buy BU goods to take back home with me. I proudly walk the streets of downtown Chicago sporting my Wildcat orange and white golf umbrella!

Our foursome has played in the BU Alumni Golf Classic for over a decade. For us, it has become a sacred annual date where we set aside a day to reconnect with our Baker roots and old friends.
(Plus, who could pass up the annual opportunity to have Dan Harris step in your putting line or make wise-cracks during your back swing?)
