Phil Hannon is in his fourth-year as a head coach at Baker
after playing and coaching experience in the minor leagues. He
excelled as a student-athlete at Baker, playing for four years
as a wide receiver in the fall and a centerfielder in the spring.
Hannon signed with the Chicago Cubs following his senior
year. He rose to AA ball in 1990 and later that season became
a player/coach for Charlotte. He coached in Geneva, N.Y. and Huntington,
W.V. before leaving the Cubs organization to manage the High Desert
Mavericks in the California League.
He was hired to coach at his alma mater in the Fall of 1999.
He also works as an admissions representative and physical education
instructor. Hannon lives in Baldwin City with his wife and four
children.
"Phil knows so much about the game," athletics director
Dan Harris said, "but more important he is an outstanding
teacher of the game. He is one of the hardest workers that I have
ever been around and his excitement for the game is contagious.
He will be an outstanding leader for our student-athletes because
he has an understanding of what it takes to be successful at this
level."
