2002 Baseball News

May 7th - Bix Ellenbecker, junior from Lawrence, Fred Kraft, freshman from Overland Park , and Justin Greiner, sophomore from Lenexa, were named Honorable Mention All-Heart of America Athletic Conference on Friday. Ellenbecker and Kraft played outfield for the Wildcats and Greiner was named all-conference as a utility infielder.

April 30th - Baker fell to William Jewell College 6-5 and 6-1 Tuesday in Liberty, Mo., in its season finale. Nate Jahn, junior from Garnett, pitched a complete game for the 'Cats and Mike Palo, junior from Lenexa, batted 2-3 in the second game. The 'Cats finished with an 11-27 record, and were 4-16 in Heart of America Athletic Conference games.

March 12 - The Wildcats are on a three-game winning streak after sweeping a doubleheader against Concordia (Neb.) University and ending a three-game series against Cameron (Okla.) University with a victory. Baker swept Concordia at home on Sunday with 19-3 and 9-3 victories. Pitchers Matt Schubert, senior from Mt. Vernon, Mo., and Josh House, junior from Spring Hill, earned the wins. The Wildcats fell to Cameron in Lawton, Okla., 13-5 on Thursday and 13-3 on Friday before closing the series with an 8-2 victory. Wade Evans, sophomore from Emporia, threw for the win.

March 5th - The 'Cats split a double-header with MidAmerica Nazarene University in their season opener Thursday at Cavaness Field. Mike Palo, senior from Lenexa, Jason Patty, sophomore from El Dorado, and Justin Greiner, sophomore from Lenexa, all had three hits in an 18-16 loss in the first game. Matt Schubert, senior from Mt. Vernon, Mo., pitched Baker to a 9-7 victory in the second game. Patty and Marcus Wilson, senior from Grandview, Mo., had two hits.
