Feb. 7 - Veterans, Randle place high at Mule Relays

Sophomore Brett Weir and senior Matt Hallauer, Baker's two returning national qualifiers, and freshman Brett Randle earned Top 10 finishes at the Mule Relays Feb. 7 in Warrensburg, Mo.

The meet, hosted by Central Missouri State University on it's 200-meter track, featured 18 NCAA Div. II, NAIA and junior college teams. Hallauer, a senior from Holton, was the highest placer with his time of 15:59.08 taking seventh in the 5,000-meter run. It was the first time Hallauer has broke the 16-minute mark in the 5,000-meter run either indoors or outdoors.

Weir, a sophomore from Topeka, was tied for seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with an 8.54 time during preliminaries and finished eighth in finals with an 8.61. Randle, a freshman from Dallas, placed eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 44-feet, 4.25-inches. Randle also placed 13th in the long jump with a leap of 20-10.25. Both are the best marks by a Wildcat this season.

Freshman Marty Johnston of Leawood placed 15th in the 800-meter run with at time of 2:02.93 and freshman Ryan Gardner of Chillocothe, Mo., led the Wildcats in the shot put with a toss of 41-10.5.

Jan. 31 - Weir, newcomers make impact at NWU

Sophomore Brett Weir of Topeka improved his provisional-qualifying time in the 55-meter hurdles and two freshmen also made an impact at the Nebraska Wesleyan Quadrangular Jan. 31 in Lincoln, Neb.

Weir finished second in the hurdles and ran a 8.01 in the preliminary race, improving the time he ran at the Doane Pentathlon on Jan. 25 by four-hundreths of a second.

Weir also placed sixth in the long jump, one place behind freshman Brett Randle of Dallas who jumped 20' 02.75". Randle placed even better in the triple jump, with his 43' 03.75" mark earning third place.

Freshman Marty Johnston of Leawood led the distance runners at the season opener just a few months after leading the Baker soccer team in scoring. Johnston finished seventh in the 1,000-yard run, just 0.6 seconds from scoring with a time of 2:25.30.
