Feb. 6 Newcomers lead 'Cats at Mule Relays

Newcomers Becki Cargo, Jana Collins and LaTasha Roberts proved their performances in the season opener were no flukes with additional impressive performanecs at the Mule Relays Feb. 6 in Warrensburg, Mo.

The Mule Relays are hosted by Central Missouri State University and features 18 NCAA Div. II, NAIA and junior college teams on a 200-meter track. Cargo, a senior from Pamona running track for the first time after four years of soccer, had the highest finish of the day by placing ninth in the 600-yard run with a time of 1:36.73.

Roberts, a freshman from Louisburg, placed 19th in the 60-meter dash against 47 other competitors with a time of 8.36 and also ran a 28.74 in the 200-meter dash.

Collins, a junior college transfer from Highland, edged Roberts in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.30 and placed 15th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.43.

Jan. 31 Roberts' career off to fast start

Freshman LaTasha Roberts' college career got off to a fast start with three scoring finishes at the Nebraska Wesleyan Quadrangular Jan. 31 in Lincoln, Neb.

Roberts, of Louisburg, placed third in the 440-yard dash and fifth in the 55-meter dash, and ran the anchor leg on the 4x440-yard relay team that finished fourth.

Junior Jana Collins of Highland also scored big in her first meet as a Wildcat. Collins placed fourth in the 600-yard run and also ran on the 4x400-yard relay team.

Freshman Lori Seidl of Benton and senior Angie Heffner of Baldwin City placed fourth and fifth in the 55-meter hurdles. Senior Becki Cargo of Pamona placed sixth in the 880-yard run, her first performance for the track team after four years on the Baker soccer team. Sophomore Blair Spencer of Alma placed sixth in the 1,000-yard run.
