Head coach - Phil Hannon - 8th season (phil.hannon@bakeru.edu)

With ties to the Baker University baseball team since 1983, Phil Hannon is in his seventh year as the head coach of the Wildcats baseball team after taking over in July of 1999.

Hannon has brought a wealth of baseball experience to Baker. He played minor league baseball in the Chicago Cubs organization for five years, and coached and managed at the minor league level for another three years.

Hannon excelled as an athlete in his hometown of Lexington, Mo., at Lexington High School from 1978 to 1982 where he received multiple letters in football and baseball. Hannon continued his athletic success at Baker, where he started and lettered all four years as a wide receiver for the football team and a center fielder for the baseball team while earning a bachelor's degree in physical education in 1986.

Hannon caught the eye of scouts during his senior year at Baker and signed with the Cubs after graduation, beginning his five-year run as a player in the minor leagues where he reached the AA level in 1990. The next two years, Hannon coached at Geneva, N.Y., and Huntington, W.V., before leaving the Cubs organization in 1993 to manage the High Desert Mavericks of the California League.

Hannon also serves as a physical education instructor and admissions representative at Baker. He lives in Baldwin City with his wife Charlene and their four children. His eldest son, Andy, is a junior at Baker and is a member of the Wildcat basketball team. His second son, Aaron, is a member of Baker's track and field team.

"Phil knows so much about the game," athletics director Dan Harris said, "but more important he is an outstanding teacher of the game. He is one of the hardest workers that I have ever been around and his excitement for the game is contagious. He will be an outstanding leader for our student-athletes because he has an understanding of what it takes to be successful at this level."
